Erik Moncayo has been elected as the new President of the Regional Private Sector Group (RPSG) for the Americas and the Caribbean of the World Customs Organization (WCO), by consensus of the group’s members. His appointment marks a new stage of regional leadership focused on strengthening public-private cooperation in the customs sphere and promoting more secure international trade.

The RPSG, comprised of private sector representatives from WCO member countries in the Americas and the Caribbean, brings together key actors to inform and support in the development of more efficient, inclusive, and secure customs policies. Currently, it includes the active participation of over 30 representatives from companies, associations, and private organizations with relevant experience in international trade.

Moncayo succeeds Alfonso Rojas, who represented the International Association of Professional Customs Brokers (ASAPRA) / CARGODEC MX, and completed a successful six-year leadership term. Moncayo’s term is set for three years, during which he is expected to continue and further strengthen regional coordination on trade facilitation, supply chain security, and customs innovation from a private sector perspective, in support of and coordination with the WCO.

With 30 years of experience in security, customs, intelligence, and international relations, Moncayo, representing World BASC Organization as its International President, has held strategic positions within U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), including Deputy Assistant Commissioner for the Office of International Affairs and CBP Attaché in Mexico and Panama. His leadership in international coordination has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Department of State, and several foreign authorities.

WBO brings together over 4,600 certified companies working in close collaboration with customs authorities in more than 17 countries.“Our work embodies the shared values and objectives of the WCO and the GRSP, namely: promoting secure, transparent, and efficient supply chains through collaboration between the public and private sectors,” Moncayo stated.

BASC has maintained a cooperative relationship with the WCO for over 20 years, centered on the joint promotion of a culture of security and trade facilitation. In 2007, both organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding formalizing this strategic alliance and voluntary cooperation.

Since then, WBO has actively participated in various WCO dialogue platforms, including its sessions in Brussels. Today, the Organization is a member of the WCO’s Private Sector Consultative Group (PSCG), which includes 30 representatives from companies and associations across various regions and industries, contributing expertise in business security and international cooperation.

Moncayo’s appointment represents a renewed opportunity to deepen collaboration between the WCO and the private sector in the region, guided by a vision of integration and institutional strengthening.
